Nick Rolfe purchased his life insurance package early, after his work as a financial adviser showed him the positive impact that personal cover could have on his clients’ lives.
By the time he was 30, Asteron Life’s income protection cover had supported him through two major medical issues so he could keep moving forward with life.

Nick has first-hand experience of the value of life insurance
At 21, and with a background as a national level swimmer and competitive water-polo player, Nick Rolfe left the military and fell into a career as a financial adviser.
“I’m the managing director of a financial advisery firm, and I absolutely love my work. I get to see first-hand the support my team, and products like income protection and trauma cover, can give our clients if anything goes wrong in their lives.”
Nick took out his own personal insurance in his early twenties, but he transferred his cover to Asteron Life at 23 to take advantage of the level premium options available on life, income and trauma covers.
Sports injuries led to extended periods off work
Nick got back into sports, and especially weightlifting in his 20s, but suffered a number of injuries.
His first big insurance claim was at 27 years old when, following a shoulder reconstruction, he spent the better part of nine months going through recovery, rehabilitation and gradually returning to work.
"I was incredibly lucky that I'd taken out cover when I did, and lucky to have the support of Asteron Life - they've really looked after me."
“Asteron Life were so supportive through the whole process. The income protection meant that we were looked after and my business could continue. They also helped me with occupational therapists and help round the home – everything I needed to recover and move forward.”
It’s been a pretty tough couple of years for Nick, who loves to be active and wants to keep growing his business.
“My partner and I would be in a difficult financial position if I hadn’t had cover in place. I was incredibly lucky that I’d taken it out when I did, and lucky to have the support of Asteron Life – they’ve really looked after me.”
Nick’s hoping for a few years injury-free – but he knows his cover is still in place if he needs it
“These injuries have had a huge impact on my life, and I’m looking forward to feeling recovered, finishing rehab and not having to deal with it anymore.”
Nick works with a lot of trade-based clients and says his advice to clients, after claiming, will remain the same – the ability to earn an income is a huge asset that needs to be protected.
“People don’t think it’s going to happen to them – but I was just about to turn 30 and I’d literally spent two of the last three in rehab. A small injury like a hand or a knee can take people out of work for months, and the financial impact is enormous.”
Nick’s hoping to have a few years off claiming, but if anything else does go wrong he knows that his cover continues – on the same premiums as when he first took it out.
